Short version: PetPass is local-first. Your pet profiles, health records, photos, reminders, and backups stay on your device. We do not create accounts, do not sync medical data to a PetPass cloud, and do not include analytics or crash reporting in this version. Network use is limited to Apple / Google in-app purchase validation when you buy or restore Pro.
1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy explains how the PetPass mobile application (“PetPass”, “the App”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use the App on iOS or Android.
PetPass is a personal pet health passport tool for storing vaccines, deworming/medication, weight, clinic notes, and related records offline on your phone.
2. Scope
This Policy applies to the PetPass app distributed under the identifier io.petpass.app, including optional Pro features and the iOS Home Screen Widget (when available).
It does not apply to third-party websites, stores, or apps you may open via system share sheets or store links.
3. Information stored on your device
PetPass does not require a PetPass account or login. Content you enter is stored locally on your device (and, where the OS provides it, in related local app storage such as an App Group used by the widget).
Depending on how you use the App, this may include:
- Pet profile data — name, species, breed, gender, birth date or approximate age, microchip ID, and optional pet photo.
- Health records — vaccines, deworming/medication, weight entries, clinic name/phone, notes, dates, and next-due dates.
- Media — photos you attach (for example pet photos or vaccine card images).
- App preferences — language, theme, weight unit, PDF paper size, reminder lead times, selected widget pet, and Pro unlock status stored locally.
- Exported files you create — PDF passports and backup archives you choose to export or share.
We do not operate a PetPass server that receives or stores the above medical content.
4. Permissions you may grant
The App may request OS permissions only when needed for features you use:
- Camera — to photograph vaccine cards or pet photos for local records.
- Photo library — to attach existing images to local records, and (where applicable) to save images you choose to export.
- Notifications — to schedule local reminders for upcoming due dates. Reminder scheduling runs on-device via the system notification framework.
You can deny or later revoke these permissions in system settings. Some features will then be unavailable.
5. How information is used
On-device information is used solely to provide App features you request, including:
- displaying and editing pet passports and timelines;
- charts (for example weight history);
- local reminders;
- PDF export and sharing you initiate;
- backup export/restore you initiate;
- Home Screen Widget updates (Pro), using shared local App Group storage on iOS.
We do not sell your data. We do not use pet health records for advertising.
6. Network use and third parties
6.1 In-app purchases (Pro)
If you purchase or restore PetPass Pro, the App uses Apple App Store / Google Play billing APIs. Purchase and restore flows may contact Apple or Google to validate receipts according to their policies. Payment details are processed by Apple or Google, not by PetPass.
Product identifier used by the App: petpass_pro (non-consumable / one-time unlock, as configured in the store).
6.2 Sharing and exports you initiate
When you share a PDF, backup file, or other export, the destination (Messages, Mail, Files, cloud drives, other apps) is chosen by you through the system share sheet. Those destinations have their own privacy policies. Backup files can include pet names, medical history, and photos — share them only with people you trust.
6.3 What we do not include in this version
- No PetPass account system
- No PetPass cloud sync of medical data
- No third-party analytics SDKs
- No crash-reporting SDKs
- No advertising SDKs
PDF generation uses fonts bundled with the App and does not download fonts from the network.
7. Home Screen Widget (iOS)
If you enable the widget (Pro), limited display data (such as selected pet summary and optional photo needed for the widget) may be stored in the iOS App Group group.io.petpass.app so the widget extension can read it. This storage remains on your device and is not uploaded to a PetPass server.
8. Children’s privacy
PetPass is not directed at children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through a PetPass account, because the App does not provide accounts. If you believe a child has entered sensitive information and you need help deleting local data, uninstall the App and/or contact us using the address below.
9. Data retention and deletion
- On device: data remains until you delete individual pets/records, restore a different backup, or uninstall the App.
- Uninstall: uninstalling removes local App data, unless you previously exported a backup or saved shared files elsewhere.
- Exports you keep: PDFs and backup files you save or share are under your control outside the App.
10. Security
Because data is stored locally, protection depends primarily on your device security (passcode/biometrics, OS updates, and who can unlock the device). We recommend keeping your device locked and sharing backups only with trusted recipients.
PetPass uses standard OS networking for store purchase validation where applicable. The App declares that it does not use non-exempt encryption beyond what the platforms provide for such communications.
11. International users
PetPass is designed to keep your content on your device. Processing of store purchases is handled by Apple or Google in accordance with their terms and your region’s store settings.
12. Medical disclaimer
PetPass helps you organize records you enter. Passports and exports are maintained by the pet owner and are not a veterinary diagnosis or an official medical certificate.
13. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after an update means you acknowledge the revised Policy. Material changes may also be noted in the App Store / Play Store release notes when practical.
